Kelsey and Rob tied the knot on October 18, 2014 at Woodland Hall in Kernersville, NC. This outdoorsy couple planned a laid-back outdoor wedding that showcased all the best aspects of autumn. Read Kelsey + Rob’s Q&A below to learn more about how they planned their fall wedding and their favorite moments from the day!

1. What was your favorite moment from the day?

K: There is no way I could only choose one. During the ceremony our officiant, Mary Larach, asked all our guests to say ‘I Do’ if they supported our vows and promised to encourage us in our marriage. I also really loved that Rob said ‘Hell Yeah’ to our vows instead of ‘I Do’.

2. What factors led to your decision in having an outdoor ceremony in October? What advice do you have for other couples planning a similar wedding?

K: We decided to have an outdoor wedding because, well, I cannot remember actually thinking of anything else, it just seemed like the right thing to do for us. October was another no brainier, I have loved fall since I was a kid, I have always been a big fan of the gourds and the rich colors of the season; I loved having a wedding that was colored not only with flowers but other natural objects like leaves and gourds. Rob I think fell in love with fall in NC when we took our first trip up to Boone, NC and he was able to see all the beautiful colors and textures of the season. He is also a lumberjack at heart so, it seemed fitting for him.

The advice I have for other people planning an outdoor fall wedding is to use the farmers’ market! I was able to get all of the flowers, gourds and other natural materials the day before and they were all reasonably priced. Also, as the daughter of a local farmer I felt good knowing I was supporting the community.

R: I love the outdoors.  It’s where Kelsey and I “come alive”.  The idea, however, of planning for a year hoping for good weather on a single specific day is a terrifying prospect.  Advice for similarly minded couples would be to pick a venue with some flexibility.  One of the advantages of our venue was the option to move the ceremony inside if the weather wasn’t ideal.

3. What factors other than photos went into your decision on a wedding photographer? Why did you decide to pick me?

K: We did not want a Pinterest-Photo type wedding, we also wanted to limit the number of posed pictures. Rob and I love the personalities of each other, our families and friends and we wanted Courtney to capture that. She has a great way of capturing pictures specific to the couple, viewing her website and speaking with friends who have used her, I cannot think of a single photo that I saw more than once. This is what made Courtney the perfect fit for us.

R: Kelsey said she wanted Courtney Potter.

4.  From booking to delivery of images and seeing the results, what in your mind made it the right choice for us to collaborate? Did anything surprise you?

K: Courtney’s attitude and disposition as soon as I spoke with her and throughout the wedding day itself is what made her the right choice for Rob and me. We are both from very…cooky families and I never once felt uncomfortable or silly explaining our quirks or being ourselves.

5.  What’s next for you as a couple?

K: In April we will be Honeymooning in Ireland! We are also saving up to purchase a house with some land so we can start doing more with gardening and our love, no, more like obsession with dogs.

6. Anything else you’d like to add about your wedding?

K: Rob and I are both very thankful for everyone who celebrated with us and especially our amazing family and dear friends who helped us set up. I think I had as much fun setting up as I did at the wedding itself.

Kelsey + Rob, thank you for being such an easy couple to work with! Your laid-back personalities and sense of humor made photographing your day a breeze. I loved how willing you both were to collaborate in order to get the best photo–thanks for agreeing to get dressed outside, Kelsey!  🙂 I am so excited to share these photos with you and can’t wait to work with your families again this March during your sister’s wedding!
