Painting Commissions

Creativity stirs within all of us, longing for the chance to burst forth into the world. Painting Commissions are a way for you to answer that call.

As a co-creator of your original artwork, you’ll connect more deeply with your own creative vision and desires, so we can bring to life the beauty within your imagination.

By working together on your one-of-a-kind painting commission, you join with me as a collaborator in the creative process.

Guided by your inspiration, I’ll craft original artwork that’s custom-made for your home or workspace (and for you). You’ll have a unique piece that you’ll also enjoy a very special relationship to.

Whether you’re seeking a custom anniversary gift for your beloved, a meaningful way to celebrate a personal milestone, or just need more color in your bedroom, commissioning an original painting allows you to create something truly special.

How does the painting commission process work?

Step 1. Schedule a free Discovery Session

We’ll talk through your painting commission vision on Zoom or at my Durham studio at Golden Belt Arts, and I’ll share the thoughts and ideas that your inspiration has sparked.

Step 2. You fill out your Painting Commission Discovery Workbook

How do you want to feel when you look at your painting commission? What colors do you love? Which of my existing paintings do you most connect with?

These questions will guide you through the process of realizing and articulating your vision for the piece during the painting commission process.

After your virtual Discovery Session, I’ll send you a link to an online workbook where you can share your thoughts with me early on! You can save and edit this workbook at any point, so it’s okay if you’re not sure on the final details just yet.

You’ll also be able to upload photos of the room you plan to hang it in, so I can ensure the piece will coordinate perfectly with your space.

Step 3. Pay your 50% deposit

Once you’ve filled out your Painting Commission Discovery Workbook and narrowed down what kind of painting commission you’d like, I’ll send you a proposal with a link to pay your 50% deposit. Your balance is due after I complete your painting.

Step 4. You wait. I paint!

Within 4-6 weeks your painting will be complete!

If you live in the Triangle (Raleigh – Durham – Chapel Hill) you’ll get to come by my Durham studio at Golden Belt Arts to pick up your piece, and we’ll review any recommendations for hanging or display. ***I’m also offering free porch delivery following the recommended safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic!***

You’ll bring home a beautiful, original painting that you played a very personal part in creating, and we’ll raise a celebratory toast!

(For patrons living in other parts of the continental US your painting will be shipped. Shipping is billed separately, but I can give you an estimate during your initial consult!) Please note I am not currently accepting commissions from outside the US.)

Voilà! Your one-of-a-kind painting commission is on its way to your home!

COMMON PAINTING COMMISSION QUESTIONS

How long does the painting commission process take from start to finish?

You’ll get your one-of-a-kind painting within 4-6 weeks from the time we connect via Skype to when your painting is completed.

Do you paint portraits?

Nope. Requests that don’t resemble my current body of work will not be considered.

I accept painting commissions that are in alignment with the work you see in my portfolio. So if you’re bananas for my fluid artwork, abstract landscapes, abstract florals—or whatever my current jam is—you’re in luck!

Need help deciding on a style? Head over to my online shop to check out my current styles offered!

Do I need to know a lot about art in order to place a commission?

Art is personal. Art is universal. Art is for everyone!

You don’t need a fine art degree or to have ever even stepped foot into a museum to participate in the creative process and to love art!

And you don’t need to be a millionaire either. My goal is to make art and the creative process accessible to everyone, no matter who you are, where you come from, or where you’re heading.

What if I want to frame my piece?

All small paintings include the price of a frame, with the exception of round canvas paintings.*

For a few larger paintings, I like to use thicker canvas for a contemporary frameless look (Sizes 20″ x 30″ and larger.)

For thinner canvases, I’m happy to custom frame your painting for you! Budget an extra $200-$600 for custom framing depending on your painting’s size. I offer several framing options in classic gallery wood (white, black, or neutral.)

(*I currently do not offer frames for round canvas paintings, but if this is something you’d like I do have a woodworking friend who may be able to help us out!)
