Winter is hands down my favorite time to photograph engagement sessions in North Carolina. You don’t have to deal with crowds, mosquitos, hurricanes, pine pollen, or sweat ruining your makeup. The sun sits lower in the sky, casting a lovely golden glow over the horizon much earlier in the day.

And sometimes you get 70 degree days…in January. Nida + Clay share my distaste for bugs + heat, so we picked a beautiful 70-degree “winter” day and played in the woods for their engagement session last month.

More meaningfully, Nida + Clay decided to take pictures in Umstead Park, since that was the location of their first date (a nine-mile run!) after meeting at the Fullsteam Run Club. I didn’t make them run nine miles for this session, but we did get a workout walking the trails in the park. 🙂

Nida + Clay, thanks for being so laid-back and fun during your session! I loved the ideas you brought to the table and really enjoyed collaborating with you. Thanks for so eagerly embracing the concept of #brinsonbanksing, too, haha! I hope you love your photos!!

While visiting my hometown of St. Louis last month I had the pleasure of shooting Katy & Tim’s engagement session. I returned home to be with my best friend during the birth of her twins, and Katy was also conveniently in town visiting Tim (she currently lives and works in the Grenadines- an island chain in the Caribbean!)

Despite the nearly sub-zero weather, we all had a lot of fun shooting at Forest Park St. Louis. (For you North Carolina readers who are unfamiliar with the Midwest: Forest Park is St. Louis’s biggest park and home to some amazing attractions that I frequented in my childhood- the Saint Louis Zoo and the Saint Louis Art Museum topping my list. Surprisingly, it is larger than Central Park in Manhattan!) We spent most of our time on Art Hill and also shot some fun photos on the wooded running trail along Skinker Road (which is where Katy and Tim had their first kiss!)

I had so much fun rediscovering this part of Forest Park and taking a break from shooting in the same old places in North Carolina. Katy & Tim are a naturally affectionate and effervescent couple, so they didn’t need any direction from me, which always makes shooting fun. 🙂

Katy & Tim, thank you so much for hiring me to do your engagement photos. I had a lot of fun working with you and gallivanting throughout Forest Park in the cold. I hope you weren’t too frozen after our shoot! 🙂  I hope these photos capture your joyful spirits and love for one another!

Prints from this session AVAILABLE HERE!
