I drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway, my portable painting supplies in the passenger seat, searching for a quiet, inspiring vista where I could sprawl on the mountain grass and paint flowers.

This turquoise, yellow, and pink floral painting is from those initiatory days of painting flowers on the mountainside. I named the final piece “Alpine Blooms” to honor the natural setting that first inspired me to paint flowers.

Ancient Egyptians built temples out of lily-shaped pillars. Monet grew them in his garden first, then painted a famous series of water lilies while suffering from cataracts. This plant’s leaves have been traditionally used to stop bleeding.

These watery blooms are an elixir.

I painted this abstract floral piece a few weeks after the death of my close friend. Grief had turned me into a creature of the water. I drew baths and cried until my tears intermingled with the water’s surface.

So when I put my paintbrush down after my bath one night and gazed down at these water lilies that I didn’t intend to make, I understood why my intuition guided me to this magical flower of the water. And I marveled at my psyche’s ability to self-heal through dreams and symbols, and through the purifying power of water.

This nocturnal inspo for this painting included a glass (or two) of 7 moons red blend vino, a limited color palette of magenta and phthalo green, and new tunes by Ella Vos on my spotify “Discover Weekly” playlist.

This is why I paint. Art will always be my therapy, my safe space where I can release whatever emotions need to get outta my body and into the world. Even if it’s 2am. The process is ephemeral but beautiful, like this floral bouquet that blooms with enough sunlight and water for a time.

I ship everything through USPS Priority and FedEx Ground, which takes 1-5 days to arrive in the contiguous 48 states. I use USPS to ship mini paintings and small paintings, and FedEx for all other sizes. For faster shipping, email me at studio@courtney-potter.com for a custom quote before checking out.

Shipping costs are determined based on painting size:

  • Mini Paintings – $8 (common sizes are 3×3 inch, 4×4 inch, 5×7 inch, 5 inches round)
  • Small Paintings – $15 (common sizes are 8×10 inch, 8 inch round, 10×10 inch, and 12×12 inch, and 12 inch round)
  • Medium Paintings – $35 (common sizes are 11×14 inch, 12×16 inch, 10×20 inch, 16×20 inch, round, and 16 inch round)
  • Large Paintings – $75 (common sizes are 16×24 inch, 20×20 inch, 20×30 inch, 20 inch round)
  • Extra Large Paintings – $100 (common sizes are 24×36 inch, 20×40 inch, 36×48 inch, and anything above)

For local Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) residents, you can also select the shipping option “Pick Up in Studio” to scoop up your original floral painting for free (and see my cozy studio space at Golden Belt Arts where it was made by yours truly!)

Use the “Pick Up in Studio” shipping option if you’re purchasing a non-tangible product like a painting workshop, art class, or gift certificate. (Interested in learning more about my online Abstract Acrylic Floral classes? I’d love to have you in class!)

I don’t currently offer shipping outside the continental U.S through my shop website, but if you live elsewhere and are interested in a custom international quote, fill out a form submission or email me at studio@courtney-potter.com.
