Allison, thanks for such a fun shoot. It’s always nice to slow the pace down and focus on creative portraiture, and your parents’ house was such a lovely setting for most of these pictures. I hope you enjoyed yourself! And props to your dad for holding the reflector and acting as the DJ for us. 🙂

With its cute red barn, pond, and friendly animals, this venue is such a gem and is a perfect backdrop for a bridal session. Many of the animals tried to photobomb us, which made for a fun, spontaneous session.

Erin, thanks so much for romping around in the fields with me on this summery evening! I hope you had fun showing off your beautiful dress again and that you love these photos! To view all of the photos from this session and order prints, please visit Erin’s gallery on my online print shop!

Now that Whitney + Brian have tied the knot, I am excited to share these photographs from Whitney’s bridal session from this May.

This session couldn’t have been any more enjoyable. Whitney hails from Western NC and has a natural love of the outdoors and adventure. When I suggested using the Haw River as our portrait setting, Whitney hiked up her dress and dauntlessly bounded from one rock to another over the river.

We chose the Haw River Ballroom in Saxapahaw, NC for our bridal session spot. This has always been one of my favorite venues to work at, given the proximity of the river and the beautiful natural light inside the ballroom. We made the most of our shoot, trekking from the woods to the river to capture a variety of backdrops.

Whitney, not only are you a stunning bride, but your adventurous spirit made this shoot an absolute pleasure! It’s always a treat when photography feels like play, and I certainly had a blast with you (and your mom!) during this shoot. I can’t wait to finish your wedding photos and share them in just a few weeks! Thanks for being such a breeze to work with!

Now that Jessie + Eric have tied the knot, I am excited to share the images from Jessie’s bridal session last month.

Jessie and Eric win the award for being our most adventurous couple- they agreed to an engagement session submerged in the Eno River last summer. Justin and I scratched our heads wondering how to top this with Jessie’s bridal portraits at The Cotton Room, so we decided to do something a bit unconventional. Some photographers brand themselves as “natural light wedding photographers” (which implies they just don’t know how to use artificial light), so we wanted to do the opposite for this shoot. Justin brought some bright pink background paper and an assortment of lights, and we turned a typical Southern portrait session into a fashion shoot. And for the majority of our “natural light” photographs we manipulated the light with our trusty reflector.

We all had an awful lot of fun during this shoot, and I am quite pleased with the final images. Jessie- thank you so much for continuing your adventurous streak and humoring us with our crazy background paper. We have been dying to post these images online and are glad the time has finally come!
